Sunnidale

Bungalows, large lots and huge trees define this established neighbourhood and is home to one of the city’s largest parks. Sunnidale is more suburban than urban, with the entirety of the neighbourhood made up of single-family homes and condos, but residents like the peace and quiet that the area provides. Families and older couples get out together to enjoy the park, and shopping is close by, on Bayfield Street and in the downtown core, a short drive away.

Take your portable barbecue, something delicious, the kids and the dog and head to Sunnidale Park for the ultimate family picnic at the ultimate park in Barrie. This spot features great tobogganing in the winter and hiking in the summer. There is also an off-leash dog park and the best playground in the city, complete with zip line.

If the weather isn’t conducive to the park then head over to the Bowlerama for some great retro fun indoors.

Lount’s Castle which was built in 1877, this Second Empire-style house at 25 Valley Dr. features a mansard-style roof and tower. Lount’s summer residence also had a third-story ballroom, as well as a stylish staircase and etched glass. This castle in the city now boasts beautiful furnished rentals.

Head over to Barrie Union Cemetery if that’s your thing where you can take a wander and learn a bit of history since this historic cemetery is the final resting place for many of Barrie’s first citizens.

With two malls, an abundance of shopping and restaurants, easy access to Highway 400 it’s not surprising this is one of Barrie’s more popular neighbourhoods.
